Retirement Village turns on to Solar Energy

Date: Nov 16 2009

Time: 12pm

Location: Bussleton

Note:

The Novacare Lifestyle Village in Busselton is taking a step towards a greener future this month, with the official launch of its own extensive solar power infrastructure.

More than 75 per cent of the 140 units in the village for over-55s have been fitted out with an array of solar photovoltaic cells that will cut the residents’ power bills dramatically.

WA company Solargain supplied and installed 111 x 1kW solar energy systems consisting of 6 x 170 watt panels and a 1.2kW inverter. Based upon the average usage of a 2 person household, this system will generate enough power to account for about 50% of the residents’ electricity needs on average. The solar program benefited from government grants that are designed to encourage the take-up of such green technology, in a bid to cut greenhouse emissions.

Opposition Leader Eric Ripper will speak at the Novacare Lifestyle Village’s solar launch on Saturday, November 21. The program for the day starts at 10am and ends at 11.30am, with speeches by Gordon Genat, founder and chairman of the board of directors of the Novacare Lifestyle Village, and Mr Ripper. The Novacare is at the corner of Bussell Highway and Bell Drive (near Broadwater Resort).

Pictures of the retirement village complete with its arrays of photovoltaic solar panels are available from Solargain Photovoltaic Sales Manager Paul Hart, who will also speak at the launch. Mr Hart is available for comment on the work involved in converting so many units to solar power.
