Solar Energy for Business & Commercial

Commercial solar energy systems are now becoming much more common as a source of energy for business premises. Whether deployed as part of a cost minimisation strategy, as a capital value add for the property owner or as part of sustainability program, commercial solar systems are meeting the needs of a range of companies.
So what’s changed that has made something that was until recently not all that viable to now one of the highest demand business purchases?

  • Due to international production and supply factors the wholesale cost of quality solar panels reducedĀ  by 50% in the 2011 calendar year
  • Larger scale commercial inverters have become available in Australia further reducing the system and installation cost
  • Business tariffs have increased by as much or more than the residential tariffs creating an increased cost of operation for all. This has been especially so for those who are on ‘peak’ and ‘off peak’ tariffs where peak demand charges have risen as high as 25% in some states in a single increase.
  • Finance options have become available where large scale commercial systems are able to be funded through mainstream bank hire purchase and leasing products.

As a result of the above changes we have seen all of the previous obstacles that prevented large scale deployment on business premises removed.
In fact, due to the rising cost of energy and vastly reduced cost of the systems; purchasing and installing a commercial solar energy system can create initial returns on investment (during their payback period) of between 20%-30% Tax Free, well above average market returns.
