Community Buildings

The Federal Government currently has a rebate available to government and not- for- profit incorporated associations which is able to be used to assist in the purchase of a solar energy system for deployment on a ‘community building’. The grant offers up to 50% of the cost of a 2kW system. Examples of such buildings are council offices, recreation centre’s, libraries, churches and sporting groups such as bowling clubs and golf clubs.

Small Business and Commercial

Until now there has been very little assistance for small business to adopt solar energy technology. With the introduction of the Federal Governments ‘Solar Credits’ system from the 1st July 2009 that is all about to change. Larger scale commercial buildings and businesses have a number of grants available to assist in the retro fitting of various energy efficiency measures (one of which is the deployment of solar energy) as well as assisting in the adoption of more energy efficient production practices for manufacturing businesses.

From time to time there are also a number of ‘special grants’ that become available from both State and Federal Governments for energy efficiency measures such as the recent limited (there were only 10) $1.5m grants for the large scale deployment of solar energy systems to iconic high profile public locations.
