Victoria has been lucky enough to enjoy substantial solar panel rebates, with eligible homeowners able to claim money off the cost of a new solar panel system. Since the initiative began, homeowners could claim up to $2,225 off the cost of a new solar PV system and an equivalent interest-free loan amount of $2,225.

However, all good things must come to an end, or at the very least change. After the last 2019 rebate round on December 17, Solar Victoria will be reducing their solar panel rebates and interest-free loans.

So, if you want to enjoy a $2,225 solar panel rebate (and a $2,225 interest-free loan), you must apply and be accepted into the December 2 or December 17, 2019 rounds. Come January 2, 2020, the rebate will  reduce to $1,888 with a corresponding interest-free loan amount of $1,888.

How to get started
Applying for the rebate is quite simple. Homeowners in Victoria simply need to check their eligibility on Solar Victoria’s website, then obtain a quote from a solar provider, such as Solargain. We’ll then guide you through the process and assist you in lodging your application on one of the two rebate application days in the month.  Solar Victoria's eligibility requirements include:

  • You are the owner-occupier of the property.
  • The homeowners have a combined household taxable income of less than $180,000 per year (based on last year’s Australian Tax Office Notice of Assessment).
  • The home is an existing property, valued at under $3 million.
  • You do not have an existing solar PV system.
  • You have not already claimed the hot water system rebate.
