Is your Solar King SLK inverter displaying an isolation fault?

What is an isolation fault?

An isolation fault in your SLK inverter indicates there may be a problem isolating the PV panels’ power supply. Before you do anything else, you should check that the main ‘solar supply’ switch in your meter box is on.

Is an isolation fault covered under warranty or by my household insurance?

SLK inverters were installed in Australia up until 2012 and came with a 5-year warranty. Being a ‘plug-and-play’ unit, if your inverter was installed by Solargain and is still within the warranty period, you can potentially remove it yourself and bring it into your nearest Solargain office, where we will replace it free of charge. That said, an isolation fault may be caused by another issue elsewhere in your installation, in which case, you may be better off booking your whole system in for a health check.

Some insurers do cover this particular fault, but you will need to check your individual policy.

What’s the best way to resolve an isolation fault?

Since an isolation fault can indicate other problems with your overall system, it is worthwhile contacting Solargain to arrange a health check, to get to the bottom of it. Our technician will check for water in the isolators which would suggest an issue with your installation. They can also replace the AC fuse (which incurs a $20 fee in addition to the cost of the health check). If the AC fuse blows immediately, your inverter will need to be replaced.

In this case, we can install a suitable replacement on the spot, taking into account the size of your system, your tariff situation and whether any rewiring is required.
