Changes to WA Switchboards

For residents of WA new rules put in place by energy regulator Western Power may prove rather costly. These new rules require that all main switches be updated to circuit-breaker main switches.

For most, those who have decently modern, normal switchboards, this will be a reasonably inexpensive upgrade. For some there will be no need for an upgrade at all. However, for those with older, asbestos backed switchboards, this will require a total overhaul and upgrade of the entire switchboard. See before and after below:

Many electrical companies are charging around about $2000 for an 18 - 24 pole switchboard upgrade. However, we here at Solargain wanted to make it easier for those who will have to make the switch (no pun intended), which is why we will be offering total switchboard upgrades for only $1,400 (single-phase) or $1,650 (three-phase)

This upgrade isn’t something to dread, as not only will it be substantially safer than older models of switchboards, but it will also open up a lot of additional circuit space. This added space will allow for the addition of extra appliances for your home , such as air-conditioning, heat pumps, or perhaps the increasingly popular electric vehicle charger.
