Solar Battery Installation Perth
Solargain

Perth homes often produce abundant rooftop solar through the middle of the day, while household demand builds again in the late afternoon and evening. A well-sized battery can hold more of that generation for use after the sun drops instead of sending all of it to the grid. Solargain's Perth team designs new solar-and-battery systems and assesses existing solar homes for compatible storage, backup and VPP options.

Perth's Battery Opportunity Is Different

For a Perth homeowner, the battery decision is not only about the federal discount. Eligible WA customers may also have a state rebate, a no-interest loan option and an approved VPP arrangement to consider. Those settings affect product choice, paperwork and the way a system is commissioned.

The most useful starting point is your own energy profile: how much solar is exported during the day, how much electricity is used after dark, and which appliances you would want available during an outage. Those figures determine whether a modest battery, a larger modular system or a new solar-and-storage design is the better fit.

How the WA and Federal Battery Support Work Together

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program supports eligible batteries connected to new or existing solar PV. Battery STCs are calculated nationally from usable capacity, system-size tiers and the factor applying on the installation date. Solar PV climate zones do not change the battery STC calculation.

What Joining a VPP Means for a Perth Household

VPP participation is a condition of the WA state rebate. A VPP coordinates compatible home batteries so stored energy can support the grid at selected times. The customer agreement determines how the battery may be used, what payments or credits apply, and when the customer can leave the arrangement.

  • Confirm that the proposed battery and inverter appear on the relevant supported-solution list.
  • Read the VPP agreement alongside the battery quote, not after installation.
  • Ask how much reserve capacity remains available for household backup.
  • Confirm communications and internet requirements for the selected VPP.
  • Check the current minimum participation period and exit conditions.

01

For Synergy customers

Eligible customers may receive $130 per usable kWh through the WA Residential Battery Scheme, capped at $1,300. An approved battery solution and participation in an eligible VPP are required. The federal discount may also apply to the same eligible installation.

02

For Horizon Power customers

Eligible regional customers may receive $380 per usable kWh, capped at $3,800, subject to the scheme's product, customer and VPP requirements. Horizon Power service areas follow different network arrangements from metropolitan Perth, so availability and connection requirements must be confirmed for the property.

03

Access an upfront discount

The written quote should show each discount separately and state the assumptions used. Certificate values, administration charges, product lists and program rules can change, so this hub should not promise a fixed combined dollar amount.

Already have solar?

Adding a Battery to Existing Solar in Perth

Many Perth enquiries come from households that already have rooftop solar. A site assessment needs to establish whether the existing inverter can work with the preferred battery, whether an AC-coupled retrofit is more practical, and whether the switchboard and meter arrangement need work. The assessment should also check Western Power connection requirements and WA-scheme eligibility before a product is recommended. For retrofit compatibility, approvals and installation steps, visit solar battery installers Perth.

Sizing a Battery for Perth Conditions

Perth's long daytime solar-production window can create a substantial pool of exportable energy, but that does not mean every home needs the largest battery available. Battery size should be tied to usable evening demand and the amount of surplus solar that can reliably recharge it.

  • Review interval data or recent electricity bills rather than relying on household size alone.
  • Separate everyday evening use from optional blackout loads.
  • Allow for future demand such as an EV, induction cooking or heat-pump hot water only where those upgrades are planned.
  • Check whether a modular battery can be expanded later instead of oversizing the first installation.
  • Choose a shaded, ventilated location that complies with installation rules and the manufacturer's operating limits.

Before you choose a battery

Six details that shape the right system

A useful quote should answer more than brand and price. These are the practical questions our team works through with you.

01

Battery chemistry

Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) is widely used for its thermal stability, safety characteristics and long cycle life.

02

Usable capacity

Compare usable—not only nominal—capacity, then size storage around your evening load and future electrification plans.

03

a

Backup design

Outage protection is not automatic. Confirm which circuits will be backed up and whether transfer equipment is included.

04

Single or three phase

Your switchboard configuration affects compatible equipment, output across phases and whole-home backup options.

05

Rebate eligibility

The system and installation must meet current program requirements, including approved equipment and installer accreditation.

06

Installation timing

The STC factor is based on installation date and steps down over time, so future discounts will differ from today’s.

Clear answers to the questions homeowners ask before requesting a system design.

Ask our local team

Can I combine the WA battery rebate with the federal battery discount

Eligible installations may be able to receive both. Each program has separate product, customer and installation requirements, and the quote should identify the current value of each component.

Do I have to join a VPP to receive the WA rebate?

Yes. Participation in an approved VPP is required for the WA Residential Battery Scheme. Confirm that the proposed equipment is compatible with the selected VPP before signing.

Can Solargain add a battery to my existing Perth solar system?

Often, yes. The solution depends on the existing inverter, solar array, switchboard, phase configuration and scheme requirements. Some homes suit AC coupling; others may benefit from a compatible hybrid-inverter upgrade.

Will the VPP stop me using my battery during an outage?

VPP and backup behaviour depends on the product, reserve settings and customer agreement. Ask how much energy can be reserved for backup and what happens during a VPP event.

Where should a battery be installed in Perth?

The location must comply with electrical and manufacturer requirements. A shaded, ventilated position away from avoidable heat exposure can support performance and longevity, subject to the permitted installation locations for the product.

Where can I compare current Perth battery prices?

Use Solargain's Perth battery storage specials page for current promotions. A final price requires a site assessment and confirmation of rebate and VPP eligibility.
